Martin McConnell is a life-long learner. He began his professional career as a photojournalist and went on to become a photographer, writer, and teacher. In other words, he has been working closely with people for most of his life. As a journalist he covered the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and the counterculture movements of the 1960s and 1970s
He worked as a photojournalist at The Detroit News and The Washington Post and as a stringer for National Geographic Magazine. His work has been featured in Life Magazine and Newsweek, and he was awarded two Emmys for his photography coverage of the Civil Rights Movement. McConnell is also the author of many books including: The Art of Teaching: A Life-Long Learning Journal, Teach Like Your Life Depends on It: A Life-Long Learning Journal, and The Art of Leadership: A Life-Long Learning Journal. He holds an MFA from Vermont College and teaches writing at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife Joanne.
